William R. Swanson
My favorite subject is seascapes, many of them underwater scenes. These often include coral reefs which are probably the most endangered ecosystem. Underwater is a world of wonder, beauty, life, color and mystery that is largely unexplored by both scientist and artist. My style is an interpretation rather than a strict representation of this world.
I studied art in Philadelphia at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Scuba diving started in 1985 with a trip to Roatan, Honduras. I absorb nature by snorkeling, kayaking or just walking the beach. Recent trips to the Philippines, Australia and Fiji were focused on snorkeling the coral reefs; good sea conditions with excellent visibility were experienced. My paintings have been in many open juried exhibits and won awards in Florida and Pennsylvania. I paint in either oil or acrylic, usually on stretched canvas.
Home is Venice, Florida.
